Most of the participants agreed that the best and most efficient way to increase the international recognition of cities in climate change talks and negotiations is by sharing the actual climate actions that cities are implementing. They also highlighted the importance of raising the voice of cities in international fora such as the United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference or the next UN Conference on Sustainable Development – Río+20.

President Pastrana, who was the first elected mayor of Bogotá, highlighted the Club de Madrid´s commitment to advocate for this recognition to the cities role in the fight against climate change.

The event convened 35 mayors from all around the world and was hosted by the Mayor of Sao Paolo and chaired by the mayor of New York City. In addition, several special guests participated, such as Bill Clinton, also a Member of the Club de Madrid, or Robert Zoeallick.
