Bridging Hearts, Opening Minds and Doing Things Together – CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS!

The 3th United Nations Alliance Of Civilizations SUMMER SCHOOL will be hosted by the University of COIMBRA, Portugal, from 04 to 12 August 2012.

Aims of the Course: The course aims to strengthen the role of youth in building tolerant and inclusive societies, youth ability to organize and take action and engage in civic participation, as well as identify educational principles to promote a “glocal civil intercultural citizenship”.

The concrete objectives of the course are to enable participants:

  • to strengthen individual and organisational capacities and skills for youth participation inintercultural dialogue and cooperation and youth leadership in promoting peace anddefusing tensions
  • to develop a common understanding of the situations and challenges faced by youngpeople in our increasingly cultural diverse but one world
  • to get acquainted with the framework of the Alliance initiative and ongoing projects
  • to act as a consultation towards the development of the global network of Dialogue Cafés as a unique opportunity that makes a difference for youth
  • to reinforce the possibilities for co-operation and dialogue between societies of thecountries members of the Alliance
  • to acquire know-how on concepts and challenges of intercultural dialogue and cooperation
  • to reflect upon topics of importance to strengthen active citizenship (e.g. culture and identity, human rights, democracy, participation, exclusion and integration, development, education, globalisation, MDGs)
  • to co-operate in a network with other participants and their projects
  • to create operational tools and act as multipliers by passing on the training and knowledge acquired
  • to live through an intercultural experience with the opportunity to develop expertise and know-how on intercultural learning

Do One Thing For Diversity and I-n-c-l-u-s-i-o-n!

Last Monday, 21 May, was the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in partnership with UNESCO and others launched the world campaign “Do One Thing for Diversity and Inclusion

As we can read in the UNAOC website, the 2012 campaign, by encouraging people and organizations from around the world to take concrete action to support diversity, aims:

  • To raise awareness worldwide about the importance of intercultural dialogue, diversity and inclusion.
  • To build a world community of individuals committed to support diversity with real and every day-life gestures.
  • To combat polarization and stereotypes to improve understanding and cooperation among people from different cultures.

Closing Session of the IV United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Forum

Below you’ll find posted the Official Closing Session of the IV United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Forum in Doha, Qatar, which was recorded on 13 December 2011.

After 3 days of meetings, exchanges, and the thrashing out of many ideas, a session was convened to summarise the IV Forum’s conclusions. As you can see, during this final session of the IV UNAOC Global Forum, H.H. Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, and the High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, Jorge Sampaio, highlighted the accomplishments of the Doha Forum.
