Thirty Club de Madrid Members back the Varkey Foundation initiative to restore teacher respect

The Varkey Foundation and Club de Madrid have joined forces to publish this open letter from leaders around the world in which they warned that an erosion in respect for the teaching profession could lead to “profoundly damaging” effects on young people’s life chances and a rise in extremism.The Club de Madrid Members, lead by its President, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former President of Latvia, are calling on governments around the world to protect and value teachers, and play their part in restoring the respect that teachers so richly deserve. 

The Politics of Peacebuilding: Lessons from Promoting Shared Societies

Club de Madrid Member Tarja Halonen, former President of Finland, and Abdurrahim El-Keib, former Prime Minister of Libya and Club de Madrid nominated Member, were the keynote speakers at the World Bank Fragility, Conflict and Violence Forum 2015 opening session on: “The Politics of Peacebuilding: Lessons from Promoting Shared Societies", jointly organized with the Club de Madrid on February 11, 2015 in Washington DC.

Tarja Halonen and Jose Ramos-Horta support the ongoing Constitution-making process and women’s participation in Nepal

Club de Madrid Members Tarja Halonen, President of the Republic of Finland (2000-2012), and José Manuel Ramos-Horta, President of Timor-Leste (2007-2012) have visited Nepal in a joint mission co-organized by Demo Finland and Club de Madrid to engage in a dialogue for democratic reform within the constitutional process, focusing on how to overcome women’s double discrimination in divided societies and ensure their effective role in building the new inclusive Nepal.

NGIC and Club de Madrid frame the debate for the "Shared Societies Forum 2014"

The Nizami Ganjavi International Center and the Club de Madrid, with the support of the State Committee for the Work on Diaspora and the Library of Alexandria hosted a High Level Preparatory Meeting to start the preparations for the “Shared Societies Forum 2014” to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, next April.
