Thirty Club de Madrid Members back the Varkey Foundation initiative to restore teacher respect

The Varkey Foundation and Club de Madrid have joined forces to publish this open letter from leaders around the world in which they warned that an erosion in respect for the teaching profession could lead to “profoundly damaging” effects on young people’s life chances and a rise in extremism.The Club de Madrid Members, lead by its President, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former President of Latvia, are calling on governments around the world to protect and value teachers, and play their part in restoring the respect that teachers so richly deserve.

Miembros del Club de Madrid Rexhep Meidani, Presidente de la República de Albania (1997-2002) y Sadig al- Mahdi, el Primer Ministro de Sudán (1966-1967 , 1986-1989) lideraron en Bruselas una fructífera reunión del proyecto LEND con representantes políticos y de la sociedad civil de Túnez y Moldavia. 

Security in wider Europe

The Club de Madrid (CdM) and the Nizami Ganjavi International Center (NGIC) co-organized a Workshop in Andorra (5-6 September) to discuss security challenges and conflicts in the wider European region. The meeting gathered Members of the CdM and of the NGIC with experts on security issues. 

 

 

Kwaśniewski, Meidani and Tadic support Moldova’s efforts to speed up its EU integration process

During the Club de Madrid High Level Mission to Moldova (April 14-16), Members Kwaśniewski (former President of Poland 1995-2005), Meidani (former President of Albania 1997-2002) and Tadic (former President of Serbia 2004-2012) discussed with different interlocutors the challenges of the DCFTA agreement and endorsed the government’s efforts to accelerate the process of integration.

INSPIRED-Moldova to address the challenges and opportunities of the Free Trade Agreement with the EU

Club de Madrid Members, Kwasniewski, Meidani and Tadic  will lead a high level Mission of the INSPIRED project to Chisinau, Moldova, from 14th to 16th of April. They will tackle the challenges faced by the Moldovan government concerning the EU-Moldova Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) and Moldova Strategy 2020. The delegation will hold meetings with the President, Nicolae Timofti and the Prime Minister, Iurie Leanca.

LEND meeting to discuss Constitutional reform in Tunisia

Club de Madrid Members Petre Roman and Rexhep Meidani will chair this Saturday 30 in Tunis a seminar focused on the Constitution Reform process with representatives of all relevant Tunisian political parties and national and international members of the LEND Network

Deputy Prime Minister Leanca launches LEND Network in Moldova

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Liure Leanca has formally opened the first face-to-face meeting of the LEND Platform in Chisinau. LEND (Leaders Engaged in New Democracies) Network programe* is holding its first face-to-face meeting in Chisinau, Moldova, on 15-17 October 2012.
