Obasanjo urges governments to invest in its people in order to tackle violent extremism

Former President of Nigeria and Club de Madrid Member, Olusegun Obasanjo, urged the Nigerian government to sustain the on-going fight against insurgency and other crimes in the country during while strengthening democracy by providing its dividends to Nigerians. He made these remarks in the workshop “Preventing Violent Extremism in Nigeria: Effective Narratives and Messaging” on the 23rd and 24th of May 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria. 

Club de Madrid organizes a Workshop in Nigeria on effective alternative narrative against violent extremism

This forum will bring together the Club de Madrid Member Olusegun Obasanjo (President of Nigeria 1976-1979, 1999-2007), with the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Mohammed Monguno (retired), and key national interlocutors on May 23-24 of 2017.

Thirty Club de Madrid Members back the Varkey Foundation initiative to restore teacher respect

The Varkey Foundation and Club de Madrid have joined forces to publish this open letter from leaders around the world in which they warned that an erosion in respect for the teaching profession could lead to “profoundly damaging” effects on young people’s life chances and a rise in extremism.The Club de Madrid Members, lead by its President, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former President of Latvia, are calling on governments around the world to protect and value teachers, and play their part in restoring the respect that teachers so richly deserve.
