Dame Jenny Shipley was Prime Minister of New Zealand and Leader of the National Party from 1997 to 1999. Dame Jenny was elected to the New Zealand Parliament in 1987. She held the Ministerial portfolios of Social Welfare and Women’s Affairs 90-93, Health 93-96 and SOE's, State Services and Transport and ACC 96-97 leading major reform. While Prime Minister she hosted APEC in Auckland in 1999. After serving as Prime Minister, she served as Leader of the Opposition and retired from politics in 2002 to return to the business community. She was a Director on the Shanghai and Hong Kong listed Fortune 500 Company, China Construction Bank for 6 years and now chairs the CCBNZ subsidiary. She chairs the NZX listed Genesis Energy. Dame Jenny is on the Board of BOAO Forum and IFF Beijing and was an Initiator of the Education Forum for East Asia. She is an active member of the World Women’s Leadership Council, a former Vice President of the Club of Madrid and deeply involved in promoting inclusion and the value of diversity in NZ and globally.
