Helmut Kohl, the right men for democracy in the right time for Europe

Helmut Kohl, Germany's ex-chancellor, Club de Madrid founding Member and, above all, architect of reunification in 1990, died at his home at 87. He was the instrumental figure not just for the german's politics, but also for Europe. The current European Union can not be understood with his vissionary leadership.

Cuarenta y nueve miembros del Club de Madrid, a los que se han unido expertos internacionales y asesores de la organización, han firmado un rotundo comunicado en el que expresan su desacuerdo y preocupacíón con la decisión del presidente Trump de retirar a los Estados Unidos del Tratado de París sobre Cambio Climático. Al mismo tiempo instan a "todos y cada uno de los firmantes del Acuerdo de París a que lideren con el ejemplo y muestren urgencia y compromiso en la lucha contra el calentamiento global".

Ban Ki-moon, elegido nuevo miembro del Club de Madrid

 El ex secretario general de las Naciones Unidas, Ban Ki-moon, ha sido elegido miembro honorario del Club de Madrid, foro que agrupa a ex presidentes, ex primeros ministros y líderes mundiales en defensa de la democracia, Con la incorporación de Ban Ki-moon, la organización cuenta en su membresía con tres Secretarios Generales de las Naciones Unidas: Kofi Annan, miembro desde 2007, el propio Ban Ki-moon y el actual Secretrario General, Antonio Guterres.

President Donald Trump's announcement that the US is withdrawing from the 2015 Paris climate agreement has drawn strong reaction from leaders around the globe. Club de Madrid Members have reacted and spoken out advocating for keeping the Paris Agreement a strong international tool to serve today’s and future generations.

Obasanjo urges governments to invest in its people in order to tackle violent extremism

Former President of Nigeria and Club de Madrid Member, Olusegun Obasanjo, urged the Nigerian government to sustain the on-going fight against insurgency and other crimes in the country during while strengthening democracy by providing its dividends to Nigerians. He made these remarks in the workshop “Preventing Violent Extremism in Nigeria: Effective Narratives and Messaging” on the 23rd and 24th of May 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria. 

Club de Madrid conveys the final mission of its project on preventing violent extremism

Prime Minister Zlatko Lagumdzija is leading a high level mission to Lebanon that is running from Monday 29th to Wednesday 31st of May. During these days, he will engage with fellow CdM Members PM Siniora and President Gemayel, both from Lebanon. The project has been working for the last eight months in helping to build a new and effective narrative able to tackle the succcess of the radical groups propaganda

T20 present proposals for G20 to German government

International think tanks in the Think 20 group (T20) today presented twenty policy proposals for the twenty largest industrialized and emerging countries (G20) to German Chancellery Minister Peter Altmaier. Unveiled at the T20’s Global Solutions Summit in Berlin, the document “20 Solution Proposals for the G20” contains recommendations about dealing with global challenges like climate change, inequality, and digitalization. CdM has contributed to this document thorugh its participation in the Agenda 2030 Task Force
