Obasanjo urges governments to invest in its people in order to tackle violent extremism

Former President of Nigeria and Club de Madrid Member, Olusegun Obasanjo, urged the Nigerian government to sustain the on-going fight against insurgency and other crimes in the country during while strengthening democracy by providing its dividends to Nigerians. He made these remarks in the workshop “Preventing Violent Extremism in Nigeria: Effective Narratives and Messaging” on the 23rd and 24th of May 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria. 

Club de Madrid conveys the final mission of its project on preventing violent extremism

Prime Minister Zlatko Lagumdzija is leading a high level mission to Lebanon that is running from Monday 29th to Wednesday 31st of May. During these days, he will engage with fellow CdM Members PM Siniora and President Gemayel, both from Lebanon. The project has been working for the last eight months in helping to build a new and effective narrative able to tackle the succcess of the radical groups propaganda

T20 present proposals for G20 to German government

International think tanks in the Think 20 group (T20) today presented twenty policy proposals for the twenty largest industrialized and emerging countries (G20) to German Chancellery Minister Peter Altmaier. Unveiled at the T20’s Global Solutions Summit in Berlin, the document “20 Solution Proposals for the G20” contains recommendations about dealing with global challenges like climate change, inequality, and digitalization. CdM has contributed to this document thorugh its participation in the Agenda 2030 Task Force

Nigeria: Civil Society Declaration on Processes Towards Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism

In the framework of the Club de Madrid Workshop on PVE in Abuja, Nigeria, a Civil Society Declaration was approved and presented. The Partnership Against Violent Extremism (PAVE), a network of Civil Society Organizations working on PCVE and partnering with other stakeholders including State Actors, and in particular ONSA, took ownership of this declaration, and committed to the vigorous promotion of its content.

How citizens receive and perceive radical messages was the focus of the MENA Regional Forum organized by Club de Madrid in Tunisia on May 4-5. The results from the qualitative research done in the country through focus groups were shared and discussed with the participants.

CdM organizes a workshop about violent extremism during the World Forum on Urban Violence

Zlatko Lagumdzija, former Prime Minister of Bornis and Herzegovina and Club de Madrid Member, leads this workshop where there would be representatives of the European Council, experts and civil society. The workshop takes place during the WOrld Forum on Urban Violence organized by the Madrid City Hall on April 18-21, 2017.

"You were ahead of time", J. Sachs at the Shared Societies Project X Anniversary

The Shared Societies Project celebrated its tenth anniversary with a commemoration dinner attended by 35 invitees. Amongst them, 10 Club de Madrid Members, all of them former Presidents and Prime Ministers from America, Europe and Oceania and the economist Jeffrey Sachs, director of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
