Amongst them, 10 Club de Madrid Members, all of them former Presidents and Prime Ministers from America, Europe and Oceania and the economist Jeffrey Sachs, director of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

"Where Shared Society Starts, Violent Extremism Stops"

SSP, GeorgiaMembers Wim Kok and Zlatko Lagumdzija participated, on February 20-23th and January 29th respectively, in missions part of Club de Madrid’s collaboration in the Project “Khotwa”. This Project, led by International Institute for Nonviolent Action (Novact), aims to promote an effective, collective, constructive and structured participation of the North African civil society in the process of the regional integration of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU).

Roza Otunbayeva Part of UN Panel on Global Poverty and Women in Peace Building

SSP, GeorgiaThe President of Kyrgyz Republic (2010-2011) and Club de Madrid Member was involved in two panel discussions focused on alleviating global poverty and empowering women through Shared Society initiatives. Both were framed by the specific goals outlined in the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Zapatero advocates for a humane approach to the issue of migration in Dominican Republic

Former President of Spain and Club de Madrid Member, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, joined a three-day high-level mission to Dominican Republic in the framewok of the Shared Societies Project. This was a joint initiative of the Club de Madrid and the Instituto Nacional de Migración, an instituion chaired by Dr. Florinda Rojas, Club de Madrid NetPLUSS member.

Cassam Uteem leads a SSP Mission to Nepal to help in the democratic process

Shared Societies, Dominican Republic, Daniel de Torres, República DominicanaDuring his visit he will meet the President and PM of the country. A Shared Societies approach would be very relevant, and the Club de Madrid is delighted to support Nepal’s quest for institutionalizing democracy and development as part of its SSP in-country missions. Teresita “Ging” Deles, NetPluss member and expert on Peace and Negotiations and former presidential adviser in the Philippines will also participate in the mission.
