The Club of Madrid and the OECD focus on Cities and Green Growth

May 26, 2010

The 2010 Urban Roundtable, a joint activity between the Club of Madrid, th OECD and the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, celebrated on May 25, 2010 at the OECD Headquarters, allowed major stakeholders to debate and discuss current best practices and identify knowledge gaps in urban green growth strategies being organised.

The global recession and continued concern over climate change have called into question the ability of the current model for economic growth to foster long-term prosperity. The OECD is currently developing a global Green Growth Strategy that will identify policies and approaches that can shift production and consumption towards a clean, low-carbon and sustainable economy. With the world’s urban population having surpassed the symbolic 50% threshold, cities play an increasingly important role in meeting this challenge.

The Roundtable brought together ministers, mayors, regional and large international companies' leaders which, together with our Members Esko Aho (Finland), Cassam Uteem (Mauritius) and Kim Campbell (Canada), identified a common policy agenda for cities' contribution to a global Green Growth Strategy.
