The Shared Societies Project reached this Monday a very important milestone with the launching of a Declaration of Shared Cities in South East Europe. The document was approved by the participants of the conference, jointly organized by the Club de Madrid, City of Sarajevo, Shared Societies and Values Foundation Sarajevo, founded by Club de Madrid Member Zlatko Lagumdzija.

Sixth High-Level Mission towards peaceful transition to Democracy in Myanmar

Kjell Magne Bondevik, former Prime Minister of Norway, and Jigmi Yoser Thinley, former Prime Minister of Bhutan, led the Sixth High-Level Mission to Myanmar from 14-17 June 2016 jointly with the Oslo Center. The mission was undertaken within the “High Level Support for Effective Dialogue in Myanmar: Towards Democratic Transition and Shared Societies” Project, funded by The Charitable Foundation.

Orlando massacre: 'An act of terror an act of hate' that hits everyone's democracy  

The Club de Madrid strongly condemns yesterday’s shooting rampage in Orlando (USA). This new criminal assault, driven by hate and homophobia, is much more than a horrifying mass murder against the LGTB community. It is a direct attack on a core democratic value: the belief and conviction that we are born equal regardless of our sex orientation, our religion or our race.

Club de Madrid publishes the summary of the Next Generation Democracy Sub-Saharan Africa Roundtable.

Joaquim Chissano, Olusegun Obasanjo, Hamadi Jebali and Joyce Banda, Club de Madrid members and former Presidents and Prime Ministers of Mozambique, Nigeria, Tunisia and Malawi respectively, gathered in a two-day meeting to discuss existing good practices and transformative ideas to advance democracy in Africa, together with experts, civil society representatives, young leaders and other stakeholders from the region.
