The Club de Madrid is pleased to announce the publication of a significant report and book (AM Salinas de Friás, KLH Samuel, and ND White (eds), Counter-Terrorism: International Law and Practice (Oxford University Press, Oxford 2012) which examine how the rule of law may be strengthened in the context of counter-terrorist responses.

Haitian President launches key unblocking measures with the support of the Club de Madrid

President Michel Martelly, in the framework of a plenary session on “Political consensus amongst Haitians. The political experience of the Club de Madrid at the service of Haiti’s future » committed before the main Haitian stakeholders to publish a pending Constitutional Reform, to name all members of the Supreme Court (Cour de Cassation), to provide for a functional Permanent Electoral Council and municipal and senatorial elections in 2012 hence unblocking the standstill between the Executive and Legislative powers that was hindering development.

Vaclav Havel, a source of inspiration

The Club of Madrid Members and staff are deeply saddened by the passing of Vaclav Havel, tenth and last president of Czecho-Slovakia, first President of the Czech Republic (1993–2003), and Member of the Club de Madrid. We would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
