Changes in the Arab World: Revolutions towards Democracy?

The Club de Madrid and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs co-organized a debate on “Changes in the Arab World: Revolutions towards Democracy?” held in the Diplomatic School of Madrid on April 5, with keynote speeches by Wim Kok (Prime Minister of the Netherlands, 1994-2002 and President of the Club de Madrid), Lionel Jospin (Prime Minister of France, 1997-2002), Sadig Al Mahdi (Prime Minister of Sudan, 1966-1967 and 1986-1989) and Abdul-Kareem Al Eryani (Prime Minister of Yemen, 1980-1983 and 1998-2001) through a video message.

President Vike-Freiberga focused on democratic consolidation and ethnic reconciliation during Club of Madrid assessment mission in Kyrgyzstan

Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former President of Latvia and Club of Madrid member, led an assessment mission to Kyrgyzstan on August 10-13 with the support of the European Commission to analyze the feasibility and the commitment of Kyrgyz authorities for a 12-month Club of Madrid project. The project would contribute to the consolidation of representative, inclusive and sustainable democratic governance in Kyrgyzstan, as well as efforts at reconciliation to address the ethnic issues in the south.

European Foundation Centre Annual General Assembly 2010 – Foundation Week

Our Member Vaira Vike-Freiberga participated in the European Foundation Centre (EFC) Annual General Assembly 2010, following special invitation from Gerry Salole, Executive Director of EFC, an international association of key European foundations with Secretariat based in Brussels.
