Club de Madrid supports the #InspiringTunisia campaign for a democracy that delivers

Thirteen Club de Madrid Members, all of them democractically elected former Presidents and Prime Ministers from all over the world, have signed the manifesto "Inspiring Tunisia; Translating Words Into Actions" to endorse a positive narrative about the country, and help the Tunisia2020 conference succeed.

Han Seung-soo and Boris Tadic lead a mission on Decentralisation and Economic Development for Peace in Myanmar

The Club de Madrid co-organized two multi-stakeholder events on inclusive economic development and decentralization for social inclusion jointly with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Myanmar based nongovernmental organization Ecodev/ALARM. The mission (26-30, May) was undertaken in the framework of the “High Level Support for Effective Dialogue in Myanmar: Towards Democratic Transition and Shared Societies” Project funded by The Charitable Foundation

 
Thirty Club de Madrid Members back the Varkey Foundation initiative to restore teacher respect

The Varkey Foundation and Club de Madrid have joined forces to publish this open letter from leaders around the world in which they warned that an erosion in respect for the teaching profession could lead to “profoundly damaging” effects on young people’s life chances and a rise in extremism.The Club de Madrid Members, lead by its President, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former President of Latvia, are calling on governments around the world to protect and value teachers, and play their part in restoring the respect that teachers so richly deserve.

The Club de Madrid moves forward along with the International sustainable development agenda

The Club de Madrid welcomes the progress achieved during the last round of international climate negotiations that took place in Bangkok, Thailand, 3-8 April, where an agreement on the agenda for the negotiations towards COP17 in Durban, South Africa, at the end of 2011, was reached. The next Climate Talks will take place in Bonn, Germany, on 6-17 June 2011, and the Club de Madrid, plans to organise a side event where the messages for an equitable and fair post-2012 climate regime are strengthened, including the support to the most vulnerable countries and the advocacy for the missing Millennium Development Goal “universal clean energy access”.
