"You were ahead of time", J. Sachs at the Shared Societies Project X Anniversary

The Shared Societies Project celebrated its tenth anniversary with a commemoration dinner attended by 35 invitees. Amongst them, 10 Club de Madrid Members, all of them former Presidents and Prime Ministers from America, Europe and Oceania and the economist Jeffrey Sachs, director of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

#SharedSocieties at the UN Commision for Social Development

During the meetings of the UN Commision for Social Development, the Club de Madrid and the Division for Social Policy and Development of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs organized a Side Event with the theme: "The role of a Shared Society in achieving socially sustainable and inclusive development". Danilo Turk, President of Slovenia (2007-2012) and Member of the Club de Madrid, were one of the main panellists. 

Building a Shared Society in South East Asia?  Social Cohesion Policy Review of Vietnam

On November 11th, 2014, the Club de Madrid along with the Real Instituto Elcano organized the presentation of the report of the Development Center of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), on the subject of Social Cohesion Policy in Vietnam

Shared Societies Perspective in the Post-2015 Development Agenda

Development 57.1 ‘Shared Societies’, a special issue of the quarterly journal of the Society for International Development, produced in partnership with the Club de Madrid, was launched in New York on October 8th, 2014 in a Policy Dialogue hosted by the Permanent Mission of Italy and the Permanent Mission of Slovenia to the United Nations. The Journal was introduced by two key Journal contributors, Danilo Turk, President of Slovenia (2007-2012) and Member of the Club de Madrid, and Amina Mohammed, Special Advisor to the UN Secretary General on Post-2015 Development Planning.

Launch of the new edition of the journal Development ‘Shared Societies’

Development 57.1 ‘Shared Societies’, a special issue of the quarterly journal of the Society for International Development, has been produced in partnership with the Club de Madrid. Member Pastrana leads Shared Societies Project mission to Guatemala City

Club de Madrid Member Andrés Pastrana, President of Colombia (1998-2002), led a Shared Societies Project / Council of Europe Intercultural Cities mission to Guatemala City. The delegation was hosted by Guatemala City Mayor Álvaro Arzú, also a Club de Madrid Member as President of Guatemala (1995-2000).

The Dar es Salaam Statement

A group of informed African leaders and citizens met on 19th and 20th November in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania under the auspices of the Club de Madrid and the UONGOZI Institute of African Leadership for Sustainable Development. It was co-chaired by Club de Madrid Members H.E. Benjamin Mkapa, former President of Tanzania, H.E. Festus Mogae, former President of Botswana and H.E Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Nigeria.

Shared Societies Experts work in a plan to tackle double discrimination

The need to increase the ability of minority women to participate in the development of Shared Societies and to ensure personal dignity of all women were among the challenges identify by the international experts gathered in Madrid.
