Kim Campbell on Migrants Day: "Researchers show migrants enrich societies"

Today the world celebrates Migration Day, an issue very close to our Member Kim Campbell's heart. She addresses it in this three and a half minutes video in which she underlines the need to welcome inmigrants into new societies, so as to allow them to get "educated indoors". "We need to work to make everyone feel comfortable" says the former Prime Minister of Canada.

Kim Campbell will chair a new Advisory Board for appointing the Supreme Court of Canada

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, announced earlier this week a new and transparent process for appointing the Supreme Court through an independent Advisory Board. Club de Madrid congratulates its Member and former Prime Minister of Canada, Kim Campbell, for her appoinment to head this new institution, a move forward in the direction of good democratic governance.

Thirty Club de Madrid Members back the Varkey Foundation initiative to restore teacher respect

The Varkey Foundation and Club de Madrid have joined forces to publish this open letter from leaders around the world in which they warned that an erosion in respect for the teaching profession could lead to “profoundly damaging” effects on young people’s life chances and a rise in extremism.The Club de Madrid Members, lead by its President, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former President of Latvia, are calling on governments around the world to protect and value teachers, and play their part in restoring the respect that teachers so richly deserve.

Achieving peaceful and inclusive societies in the Post 2015 Development Agenda

Between July 16th and 18th, Club de Madrid (CdM) Member and former Prime Minister of Canada, Kim Campbell, held a round of meetings with United Nations (UN) Permanent Representatives and UN agencies and programmes to present our work on Shared Societies, and support the goals on "achieving peaceful and inclusive societies, rule of law, effective and capable institutions" and "strengthening and enhancing the means of implementation and global partnership for sustainable development" advocating for these to remain in the outcome document of the Open Working Group (OWG).
