Ricardo Lagos

President of Chile

In 1980’s, Mr. Lagos became politically active and emerged as a leader of the opposition to Augusto Pinochet. He served as Minister of Education (1992-1993) and Minister of Public Works (1994-1998). He was President of Chile from 2000 until 2006. He currently chairs the Fundación Democracia y Desarrollo (Democracy and Development). He was the President of the Club de Madrid from 2006 till 2009. In 2007, he was named by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Special Envoy on Climate Change. He also teaches at the Watson Institute for the International Studies at Brown University in Rhode Island.
