Kim Campbell

Prime Minister of Canada

Ms. Campbell served as the 19th and first female Prime Minister of Canada in 1993. She also held the cabinet portfolios of Minister of State for Indian Affairs and Northern Development, Justice and Attorney General, National Defence and Veterans' Affairs. She was the first woman to hold the Justice and Defence portfolios and the first woman Minister of Defence of a NATO country. Ms. Campbell taught at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (2001-2004). She is past Chair of the Council of Women World Leaders and past President of the International Women's Forum. She was Secretary General of the Club de Madrid (2004-2006). Kim Campbell currently serves on the boards and advisory committees of a number of international organizations including the Club de Madrid, the International Crisis Group, the International Centre for Democratic Transition, the Arab Democracy Foundation, the World Movement for Democracy and the Forum of Federations, among others.
